Formulation rationale
The skin barrier relies on a structured matrix of lipids to function effectively. When exposed to heat, cold, wind, or frequent washing, this lipid structure can become disrupted, leading to dryness, tightness, and increased transepidermal water loss (TEWL).
Bare Skin Balm is built around pasture-fed beef tallow, a lipid source with a fatty acid profile closely aligned to human sebum. This includes palmitic, stearic, and oleic acids, which play a role in maintaining barrier integrity and skin suppleness.
Unlike water-based creams, this anhydrous formulation does not evaporate on the skin or rely on preservatives. It works by reinforcing the skin’s natural lipid layer rather than stimulating or sensitising the skin.
